Toronto Raptors finally trade Pascal Siakam and throw in the towel on another season

The Toronto Raptors are reportedly firming up a trade that would send star player Pascal Siakam to the Indiana Pacers for Bruce Brown, Jordan Nwora and three first-round picks as well as Kira Lewis heading from New Orleans to the Raptors.

Siakam was on an expiring contract, and instead of risking losing him for nothing at the end of what is shaping up to be another losing season, the Raptors management team got what they could for the All-NBA-calibre player.

Siakam, a Cameroonian professional basketball player, began his basketball journey at New Mexico State University. In the 2016 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors selected him as the 27th overall pick, and he became part of the team’s Bench Mob alongside fellow standouts Fred VanVleet, Jakob Poeltl, and Norm Powell.

Siakam played a pivotal role in the Raptors’ historic 2019 NBA Championship run. His performance in the playoffs was stellar, and his versatility was on full display as he contributed as a scorer, rebounder, and defender. He was one of the top performers during the championship run alongside MVP Kawhi Leonard and Kyle Lowry.

Following the departure of Leonard in the 2018-2019 NBA season, Siakam got even better and established himself as a team leader on his way to earning the NBA’s Most Improved Player Award for the season. Siakam was selected as an NBA All-Star for the first time in 2020.

Siakam, a.k.a. Spicy P, stands as one of the franchise’s most enduring and popular players. He has wholeheartedly embraced the city, expressing on multiple occasions his genuine desire to maintain his connection to the community. And his smile and enduring spirit despite years of trade rumours will be missed.
