The dream is dead, New York Jets fans.

Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers admitted during his appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that he will not be returning to the Jets lineup this season.

The four-time MVP said that his body isn’t quite ready to hit the gridiron and that he would need about 3-4 more weeks to get back to 100%.

“If I was 100% today,” the 40-year-old said on the show, “I’d be pushing to play.”

Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles on the first drive of the season against the Buffalo Bills and has been working on an accelerated recovery plan with hopes getting back on the field before the end of the season.

Of course, the Jets season — for all intents and purposes — ended this past weekend when a loss to the Miami Dolphins officially knocked them out of post-season contention.

The Jets being in the playoff hunt and Rodgers feeling that he was healthy enough were the two things upon which he based his decision on about returning.

“Now without a timetable to come back obviously we can be as smart as we can be,” Rodgers said.

When asked if next season would be the last for the 40-year-old, Rodgers said “I don’t think so.”

He explained his move from Green Bay to New York this past off-season gave him “a renewed passion for the game.”

The news obviously is not good for the Jets, who also lost QB Zach Wilson to a concussion against Miami. If he is unable to play this week, that would presumably give the start to former Broncos pivot Trevor Siemian.

Siemian would be the fourth QB to start for the Jets this season after Rodgers, Wilson and Tim Boyle, who was cut after losing his two starts.
