Mackay was the longtime caddie of Phil Mickelson and began working with Thomas in 2021 following a successful stint as an on-course reporter for NBC Sports. Thomas won the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills alongside Mackay.
“I’m going to be forever thankful for him joining me on the bag,” Thomas added. “The things we’ve been able to accomplish together – The PGA Championship, The Ryder Cups were all unforgettable experiences.”
Thomas hasn’t won a tournament in nearly two years and famously had to rely on a captain’s pick for a spot on the American team in the 2023 Ryder Cup, a team he was once thought to be a cornerstone of for years to come.
“His wisdom on and off the course has been a blessing during a tough stretch of my career and he was there every step of the way,” Thomas wrote. “I know there are great things coming for both of us down the road. I wish him the best of luck and will always count him and his family amongst my friends.”
Thomas will have veteran caddie Matt Minister on the bag for the Masters, according to the Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis.
